Pastiche:Self-referential, tongue-in-cheek, rehashes of classic pop culture
Flattening of Affect:Technology, violence, drugs, and the media lead to detached, emotionless, unauthentic lives

Time Bending:Time travel provides another way to shape reality and play "what if" games with society

Genre: The film upholds the 'film noir' genre because of it's consistant use of low key lighting within the rain drenched streets and dark sidewalks. The use of clashing neon lights within these dimly lit scenes also assists in the distorted styles of 2019 Los Angeles.
Representation: Themes of isolation and lonliness are exaggerated by the scale of the buildings and their donimant presence over the city. They appear to dwarf the people living in the 'lower levels' and create dark shadows that make the streets appear overcast and dismal.

Narrative:
